Gel and foaming cleansers for a fresh, clean feel

Gel and foaming cleansers lift away oil and impurities and rinse cleanly, so they suit oily, combination and blemish-prone skin. Look for a formula that leaves skin comfortable rather than squeaky. Cleansers with salicylic acid help keep pores clear, while gentler sulphate-free gels work well for normal skin. Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and Environ Sebu-Wash are popular choices.

AboutGel & Foaming Cleansers

Gel and foaming cleansers lift away oil, sweat and the day's build-up and leave skin feeling fresh. They suit oily, combination and breakout-prone skin, and many people like one in the morning whatever their skin type.

Worth knowing

  • Environ Clarity+ Botanical Infused Sebu-Wash Gel Cleanser is part of Environ's range for oily and breakout-prone skin.
  • Environ Skin EssentiA Low Foam Cleansing Gel is a gentle everyday gel for normal to oily skin.
  • NeoStrata Restore PHA Facial Cleanser uses gentle polyhydroxy acid, a good pick for sensitive skin that still likes a gel texture.

Getting it right

A good gel cleanser should leave skin clean, not squeaky. If your face feels tight or looks red afterwards, switch to something milder or use a cream cleanser at night. Work a small amount into damp skin for a minute, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. If you wear make-up or SPF, use a cleansing oil first in the evening.
