Oily skin produces more sebum than it needs, usually because of genetics, hormones or humidity. It can look shiny by midday, with enlarged-looking pores and a tendency to congestion.
Resist the urge to strip oil away with harsh products. Over-cleansing can leave skin dehydrated and uncomfortable without making it any less shiny. Cleanse twice a day, use one clarifying serum, then a light moisturiser and SPF. A clay mask once a week helps absorb excess oil.
Environ's Clarity+ Sebu-Wash Gel Cleanser, NeoStrata Clarify and Dermalogica Active Clearing are good starting points. If oiliness comes with persistent or painful breakouts, a GP or dermatologist can help.
