AboutSalicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA). Unlike AHAs, it's oil-soluble, so it can work its way into pores and loosen the mix of oil and dead skin that leads to blackheads and blemishes. It also helps calm the look of redness, which is why it's a staple for oily and blemish-prone skin.

Ways to use it

Cleansers, such as Environ's Clarity+ Sebu-Wash Gel Cleanser, for a gentle daily dose
Toners, like the Clarity+ Sebu-Tone Clarifier
Spot gels for individual blemishes

Start with one salicylic product, used once a day, and add more only if your skin stays comfortable. It can be drying, so follow with a light moisturiser and wear SPF in the morning. Avoid layering it with other strong exfoliants or vitamin A on the same night until you know how your skin reacts.

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your pharmacist or GP before using leave-on salicylic acid. For persistent or painful breakouts, see your GP.
