Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps skin look brighter and more even, and helps protect it from environmental stress. It works best in the morning under SPF. Pure L-ascorbic acid is the most potent form, while derivatives such as ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate are gentler and more stable. Store serums away from light and heat.

AboutVitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps skin cope with daily UV and pollution, brightens a dull complexion and helps even out the look of dark spots. It also plays a role in skin's own collagen production.

Pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is potent but can be unstable and tingly. Derivatives such as ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate and sodium ascorbyl phosphate are more stable and often better suited to sensitive skin. Environ, for example, uses oil-soluble forms in its Radiance+ and Skin EssentiA ranges.

Using vitamin C

Apply in the morning after cleansing, then moisturiser and SPF.
Look for formulas that pair it with vitamin E or ferulic acid for added stability.
Store serums away from heat and light, and replace one that turns dark orange.

Vitamin C pairs well with niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and a vitamin A product at night. If your skin is sensitive, start with a lower strength or a derivative and build up.
