Vitamin E is a group of oil-soluble antioxidants, usually listed as tocopherol or tocopheryl acetate. It helps protect the oils on skin's surface from environmental stress and has a softening, conditioning feel, which is why it's so common in moisturisers, cleansers and oils.

Why it's useful

  • Works well with vitamin C, helping both stay effective for longer

  • Supports the skin barrier alongside ceramides and fatty acids
  • Helps stabilise the oils within a formula

Most skin types get on well with vitamin E, though very oily or congestion-prone skin may prefer it in lighter serums rather than rich oils.
